My garmin is in the closet eating dust because, for several weeks now that i've been logging in this site, i still dont know where to go and what to do for me to be able to download the map! Please help me! I begging you! Thank you!

For those who hate suction cup types, there is now a particular model at CDR King that I like which is not a suction cup type.

Got mine at Metropoint Mall btw.

I think Garmin calls these "portable friction mounts." Looks like the holder is a flat panel. Will it cover the adaptor socket at the back of the unit, becoming a problem when one needs to plug to the car's power outlet?

2nd question: How sturdy are these aftermarket windshield or dashboard mounts, especially those from CD-R King? I bought some products from the store before and they didn't last very long, i.e. an optical mouse that died after 6 months and headsets whose wires frayed after 1 year. No wonder they have this warranty and replacement policy that's good for a whopping 1 week!

depends... if youre using the nuvi 7 series, the usb outlet is located at the bottom

cr-dking... you'll get your moneys worth IMHO. if you buy cheap, the quality of the item is probably cheap

Got this from Amazon. Really grips the dash board. Far better than the bean bag version. Tucks away easily so it's convenient to transport. You can also shape the base according to the contour of the dash you have.

Didn't like the suction type as it will ruin my tint.

I also prefer a friction mount because it's inconvenient to constantly lean forward to attach or detach a windshield suction mount. Thanks for the Amazon tip. Will consider this vs CD-R King. Btw, were there add'l customs charges when your friction mount was delivered?

                        Garmin Friction Mount (Amazon)

@Hardright, I found the Friction Mount in Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-010-112...2962345&sr=8-3 but under "Product Details," it says that the item can be shipped only within the US. How did you have it delivered to the Phils? Thanks.

does anyone have an update on the availability of a universal dashmount that can be sourced locally?

Try CD-R King. I put off my order for the Garmin Friction Mount from Amazon and decided to give the CD-R King model a test drive. I got the same one that jayteecie posted earlier (see here: http://www.cdrking.com/?mod=products...=7349&main=106). So far so good, except the rubber pad on the clamp that holds the device fell off; but easily remedied by super glue. Click here for other available choices: http://www.cdrking.com/?mod=products...d=288&main=106.

If you do go to a store, be sure to bring your device. Not all sales ladies know what a GPS is. And this being CD-R King, be sure you inspect the items thoroughly; quality is not their best suit.

Amphib, I had mine delivered to my forwarder who then shipped it to me. Shipping from Amazon to my forwarder was free. Forwarder to me was balikbayan box rate. $50. But I had a bunch of other stuff shipped with it, so it was worth the wait.

Here's another option. The Nav Mat. Wider base and it looks really solid. Got this for my upcoming radar detector.

You can use regular Garmin mounts in the center of this mat. I got this mount for the radar detector. Mat will follow the contour of your dash as you desire.
