    Toshiba- old models rock!
Asus- well knowned for their motherboards. currently using their netbook. no issues so far.
Acer- not so expensive. repair centers everywhere. full of features.
Mac- classy, sophisticated, limited configuration, fragile and expensive. if cash is not an issue, buy it. dual boot with windows.
Dell- i was part of dell tech support before and i can say it's a good buy. overall
Lenovo- i'm currently with lenovo tech support. all i can say is that...i can't recommend it to a friend or a family member.
