    Which Model

Hi to all, am Newbie who is looking at which Garmin model to buy. Needs to be compatable with duel purpose motor bike and have capabilities suitable for me to become a contributor. If I have this right that means it must be able to record tracking @ 1sec intervals and perhaps more. I have been looking at specs on Nuvi 500, zumo 550 and Zumo 660 models but can't ascertain if any of these models are capable of the record tracking at 1sec intervals. Can anyone help here? Cheers Dazzer.

Hi Dazzer and welcome to roadguide. From the 3 models you mentioned, the waterproof Nuvi 500 is the cheapest but not sure if this can record 1s tracks though or if it can handle rough sailing when handlebar mounted. The Zumo series is motorcycle specific and the 550 has very good reviews. Again, the specs does not indicate if it can record tracks, although you can share routes. It's a tad expensive but if cost is not an issue and you'd be using this always on a motorbike, then this might be the GPS you're looking for, if it can record tracks. Ever considered the GPSmap 276C that's almost half the price of the Zumo 550? A couple of members in this forum have these mounted on their motorbikes, maybe they can give better reviews. It has voice-guided navigation and can record 1s tracks as well.

If voice guided navigation and screen size is not an issue, you might consider the 60CSx or the 76CSx. Both can be handlebar mounted or car mounted, can record 1s tracks and is generally considered as a bang-for-the buck GPS that cost less than half the price of a Zumo 550 and almost the same as the Nuvi 500. Happy hunting and whatever you're choice, we look forward to your contributions...

I have the Zumo 450 and it's very robust and easy to use. It's also waterproof which is needed for a dual sport bike.

But like Borgie said, it's not cheap.

I asked Jan if the Zumo 450 can do 1s intervals and he said the Zumo 450 is good enough for tracking purposes.

Care to share how good is "good enough for tracking purposes" and does the track get saved in the MC too or is the MC only for MP3's? TIA
