    Hello From Pasig

    Hello Everyone,

    I signed up here last week and after lurking for awhile and reading all the sticky threads, I hope I can genuinely earn my contributor status in the future.

    I'm a executive with backgrounds on Internet, Telco & Contact Centers but the main reason I signed up is I am also into photography so I travel as much as my schedule will permit.

    I think it's vital that this project continue (and succeed) because we just can't rely on the government to do everything and I think it's a good way to serve the nation in our own way by modernizing our electronic infrastructure as well.

    More power.

    Very valid points you're pointing out there. Welcome to the forum. We have members and contributors here who are also into photography. This might be a good place to share geo-tagging tips and your fave photog sites...

      Thanks

      I've travelled to nearly every point in Luzon already and the Visayas taking pictures along the way...

      Here's the stuff I've taken (some of them published);

      Geotagging in Photography has also been an interest of mine and it's actually amazing you can upload images in photo sites and they can automatically tell where it was taken.

      I'm actually rushing my learning because I am going to take another long road trip to southern luzon so I wanna contribute waypoints and unnamed streets there.

      I saw there was an EB on Saturday and I was wondering if I could crash it so I can get some quick tutorials how to use mapsource on my lappy.

        Maybe you should join that EB to get a few pointers from the experts and a quick mapsource tutorial. But how are you gonna get waypoints if you have no GPS? Just wondering...

        If you want to name unnamed streets, best to go to the place's Planning and Development Office first and get a copy of their street map. Once you get yourself oriented to the place's streets, you can start naming those roads...

          Oops...

          Forgot to mention, I have a Nuvi 200 that I bought yesterday.

          Out of the box from the instructions here on this site I was able to;

          - Update the firmware on it.
          - Get the software (mapsource/public map) installed on my mac (bootcamp) and update the unit myself.
          - I also got the contributor demo map (great stuff!)
          - changed the keyboard input to qwerty (thanks)
          - learned the hack to sample for 1 sec intervals to contribute routes/tracks

            Nice to know you're up and running by just reading up on the different "How to" threads in this forum . Wish other newbies would be as diligent as you are. With that attitude, you'd be a good contributor in no time imo...

                    Thanks!

                    I just came back from a road trip to Legazpi...

                    GPS worked like a charm;

                    I just uploaded all the waypoints, tracks and routes I could gather. I hope it makes it to the next map and is enough to get me contributor status here

                      hi dave,

                      nice work
                      Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

                        Thanks too for your concern

                        I fixed all the files already. I'm finally starting to understand mapsource

                        I'm a contributor already!

                        Thanks roadguide.ph !
