garmin 1310 newbie user

hi, my uncle gave me his garmin 1310 because he don't know how to use it it want to update the philippine map because i noticed that when we went to tagaytay i did'nt see the street or anything on my gps.nothing was presented to me only the blue line from the car where i was from was noted.i don't know where to begin.kindly give the step by step procedure on how i can start updating the map on my gps.i'm newbiew when it comes to gps.i hope that i will learn a lot from you guys.thank you for your replies.
