newbie, still deciding which to Garmin to buy

    Hi,

I'm originally from Q.C. Plan to get one when I go home. any Suggestions? Haven't used GPS before, but have seen one in the car..

Thanks, because of this free Garmin maps, definitely will buy a Garmin,(looking at Garmin Nuvi 1260), before this I was choosing between Navman, Tomtom and Garmin.

    Thanks all,
    max

I agree with Kuya Reiji, I have a 1350T myself.

However if you look through the Nuvi topic in RG, you will find that I have put in a small review of the 1200 (1260 I think) that I was able to play with for a short time. It is nice and small and thus Handy. Bluetooth compatible.

not sure if this might be one to consider but regarding contributor's map, you may want to check for compatibility as well. like the current version, 1.26

"THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH 4 NUMBERED NUVIS!
IF YOU HAD "CANNOT AUTHENTICATE MAPS" BEFORE AND THE 1.24 PATCH FIXED THAT,
I WOULD SUGGEST STAYING WITH 1.24.
A COMPATIBILITY PATCH MIGHT BE RELEASED IN DUE TIME."

War, dude you know better than to post in Pilipino without translation hehehe

Max, though the warning is valid, I feel that they are also partly ribbing you about it.

Reason is that there are some Nuvi units that really have problems with unlocking the 1.25 and 1.26 maps, but the admins are working on a patch for future maps. Also it is not 100%, because I have a 4digit nuvi 1350 and my brother has a 1300 and they both work well with the new maps 1.26. It's just some units, probably those with latest firmware, etc. that has problems.

If I had a friend who asked me for advice on Nuvi models for himself, and plans to join RG (I'd hit him/her on the head if they don't), I'd still recommend all the 4 digit models anyway, depending on their needs and wants of course. I'd still recommend the 3 digit models for those who are looking for big discounts as the 3 digit models are quite affordable now, brand new and used.
