    Newbie Nuvi 1350 user

    Greetings everyone!

I just got hold of a Nuvi 1350 from Singapore, my brother bought it for the family. This will be the primary tool for me, but I do also have a Garmin GVN 52 in the shelves, I hope I can use it with the roadguide map next time.

As I am 100% new to the forum, though I have used a handheld GPS before, I would like to request help with the following, please help with links to Topics and stuff as I imagine they should already have been discussed before in the forum.

By the way, may I ask when did Roaguide Philippines get established? If I knew about this then I would have joined already

    Okay my requests:

    1. I have a Nuvi 1350, gosh the owner's manual is very thin and so not much info there. Anyone can help me on how to set that 1sec track log thing that I read about? this is a requirement to be able to contribute right?

    2. The Nuvi 1350 pack only had a mini USB and a Micro SC slot, the miniUSB I have is for the cig lighter charger, so I am not sure how one can connect the unit to a PC, I do have a miniUSB data cable, will that do?

    3. What software do I need to be able to download and edit for contribution?

    4. How do I know that the map that I have in the unit is using the roadguide map? Well okay when I checked map info it said that the map was made by JKL Inc Philippines, and I assume that is from Roadguide.ph right?

    5. How do I contribute on editing some mistakes in the current map I have. For example, yesterday my second day of using it, I noticed that there was one street in my neighborhood that was misnamed, do I have to send a track or file for it to be edited?

I guess that is it for now, I really hope to be able to contribute to this very great project.

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

first, be sure that you compare your corrections with the latest demo map we have now....http://www.roadguide.ph/forums/showthread.php?t=17. the map you are using now is ver 1.07 and is about a year old already, so many of the supposed errors in that map have already been corrected.

read this to familiarize yourself on how we do things here...http://www.roadguide.ph/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=23

the roadguide.ph site itself went online on november 2008. but the guys who pioneered this project have been collecting gps data way long before that.

      btw, welcome to roadguide

Thanks for your replies, I am now opening all the links to read up on them.

Wow 2008 was when I got my first Garmin GV52 if I knew this project was already online I would have joined in. Imagine that the map that I had in it didn't even have South Super Highway yet!

Catch you later guys and thanks for the Welcome!

Just to report for Nuvi 1350 model the instructions here:
          http://roadguide.ph/forums/showpost....8&postcount=92

Works nicely, just press on the speedo dial until the screen changes. I can confirm this works, thanks ElX221

Thanks guys! I might be able to do some 1s Tracking over the weekend, those that I have tracked so far are already well covered (around my Neighborhood).

I really would like to join the EB this weekend, but unfortunately not sure about the schedule, will try my best to join thanks, yes would be great to meet up in person and nothing like personal tutorial on "how tos" though I haven't had time to load mapsource in my laptop.

I have some newbie questions but probably should post it in the right topic. Will do so now.

Just to report, now have the following:
                Mapsource 6.15.7
                Training Center 3.5.3
                Roadguide.ph 1.13jDEMO

I hope you guys don't mind, I can't seem to find the correct place to ask these questions so will ask here.

                  1. One way streets, I read here
                  http://roadguide.ph/forums/showthread.php?t=2

From Jan, that to know if the street is already marked as one way or not, to try using the Route tool, I tested it in a few known one way streets in my area, and nothing unusual happend.

I also tried it on Kalayaan going the wrong way, from Makati ave to Makati Cemetary, and that too did not do anything unusual.

                  Can someone please help me:
                  1. Check if Kalayaan is in fact tagged as one way or not?
                  2. Let me know what happens if I use the route tool on a marked one way street?
                  3. Any known one way street in the demo map I can use the route tool, just to make sure that I know how to confirm if a street is already marked as one way or not?

I'd post this question to Jan's post but it's a closed thread.

                  Thanks in advance!

Don't know if this (my makati ave to makati cemetery route) is what you were doing but I've got several examples for you for the rest of your questions

what happens if you use the route tool on a properly marked one way street is that it should not allow you to pass in the wrong direction. ie: if the street is one way south to north, the routing tool shouldn't let you route north to south.
in my .gdb, check out my route for Lucero Street (in San Fernando La Union), it hasn't been marked as 1 way yet hence the routing tool let me go through it in the wrong way, i.e south to north. now take a look at the route I created in Osias street. Osias street has been marked as one way south to north, hence when i created a route to traverse the street from a point north of the street to a point south of my first point, it made me go to P. Burgos, Ortega then Osmeña and then to osias to that point I created.

the 4 roads around the san fernando dry market follows a counter clockwise flow only, so you can test your routing tool in this 4 1 way streets.

I'm very sorry but I failed the exercise. I was able to follow your explanation nicely up until I tried to simulate what you did in Osias st. When I tried to do with with my route tool, it allowed me, both ways, I used the invert and recalculate feature and it allowed me.

So I clicked on your route and pressed "recalculate" and I was surprised that it actually changed your original route (around) to a straightline, and no matter what I do, I could not replicate the "rerouting" that you mentioned. I was of course using the gdb file that you gave me. I am not sure what is wrong now.

I am using version 6.15.7 mapsource and I do not have the GPS attached to my PC, not sure if that is a requirement. I am a bit stumped why does it work for you and not for me!

I checked and the property setting on mapsource is set for autorouting and "car" so that is not the problem there.

As an alternative experiment can you give me a known one way street in Metro Manila that I can test on the latest demo map?

Thanks in advance and your patience.

Routing simulation won't work on the latest demo map. If you can drop by at the EB tomorrow, I can give you a demo map with working routes.

@arvin555, well, there you go. it seems that it's the demo map that's at fault. I was surprised too after reading your replied. so I loaded the .gdb file I gave you and hit recalculate and it still didn't budge. and pokz comes along to clarify it.
so as suggested, why don't you find time to join them tomorrow, unless you've got other demo maps in your archives that you could probably test the .gdb file with.
as for your request of known one way street in NCR, you could try "driving in the wrong side" of EDSA or any of those streets which has islands (or as it has been called before: double roads) with your current demo map.
