    Thanks to you all!

    Hi

I am new in the forums and would just like to say THANK YOU to all the contributors that make GPS mapping a reality for all of us GPS fans!

Without this site I wouldn't have purchased a Garmin nuvi 265WT, so kudos to eveyone! The preloaded US Map is very good and took us where we want to go while in the US, BUT of course the real reason I bought this unit is to use it in the PI.

I have installed MapSource, Philippine routable 5.17, and Roadguide.ph map 1.03 demo version onto my PC and am a bit confused what to upload to my garmin. Sould I upload the routable or the roadguide?

    Welcome!

Use the older v5.17. I don't think you can use the demo 1.03 in your Nuvi. One can only use it in mapsource to check his/her contributions.

Thanks and looking forward to your contributions!

Thanks! and yes I am already thinking of how I can do my part to contribute to the mapping community. Maybe for starters I can start by updating POI's in places I frequently visit?

I am encountering a slight difficulty... I have "Philippine Routable 5.17" selected in Mapsource. I then used the mouse to select the entire PI map. But upon clicking on the "Send to device" this message is displayed:

"To transfer data to your device, select maps, or create waypoints, routes or tracks"

      What step did I miss?

Edit: I just found out that I have to have the MAP TOOL selected on the toolbar to be able to select the entire map set. The transfer to my Garmin was OK, but I will only be able to test once I get back in Manila next week. Kudos to you guys!

        I have the same model!

Let me know how that fares for you! Thanks! =]

Just got back from the US this weekend and had a chance to test the map yesterday. The map works great over all. I live in QC and commute to Manila everyday so I tested it out on a route I know so well. I noticed that the unit will sometimes direct me to streets that are one way streets, and that it had difficulty in the Mabuhay Rotonda section of the map where it wants me to turn left when the roundabout is one way to the right.

Overall it is a great map, considering the amount of work involved in embarking on such an ambitious project. I am very happy with it and would again like to thank the contributors who made this freely distributable map possible.

EDIT: I wonder if it's possible to convince one of the local map makers to publish their map guides along with a GPS update CD? This should prove to be very useful to tourists and local folks who would like to explore the Philippines a bit more.

That is why there's a thread where we can upload corrections and identification of 1-way streets.

I don't think that is possible for various reasons. The most notable of which is everybody can get hold of the map even without contributing. Without the contributions, the map will not improve. It will also entail cost and we cannot sell the map as the map is a result of the community's efforts.

For the average tourist (local or foreign), a paper map is more than sufficient.

            Looking forward to your contributions!
