Newbie from Bacolod

Hi,

I'm a volunteer based in Bacolod, but hoping to get around Negros quite a lot in coming months. I got hold of a Garmin 60CSx and will be taking that with me on coming trips.

I come from an IT/Surveying/GIS background, so will hopefully be able to get lots of data onto the unit both from field surveys, as well as from existing GIS sources which may not have been converted into the proprietary Garmin format.

Anyway, great to see there is an active community here, hope to have more discussions soon. Oh and let me know if you are in Bacolod, I am always interested in what other people are up to in GIS/Surveying etc.

Welcome to Roadguide WanderingWarden! It might interest you to know that there's a GIS unit LGU NegOcc at the PEMO. Their office is very near the capitol building, look for Jun or Nathan and extend my regards to them both . Hope to see your contributions soon...

Thanks all for the welcome. I've been reading up on how things work here and it has been quite interesting. In Australia everyone just buys the GPS with maps included and forgets about it. Much more interesting to see a co-operative effort here.

And Borgie, yep I have met Jun and Nathan, in fact they were able to help me out with some of the data for Negros. I am sure I will be back in the PEMO office shortly - I work close by.

In terms of edits, I am mostly looking at the area around Mt Kanla-on, not sure how extensively those trails have been mapped. Of course I will keep an eye on the Bacolod streets as well, and see if I spot any mistakes or necessary additions.

Oh and ianonline, always hard to hunt down stray hearts with a gps, but I am sure I could give you the coordinates for a few bars, maybe you could find a new one

if the coordinates will just point to mushu then forget about it. they own it and some other bars alike.
