    newbie from meycauayan

Hey there. I want to share my sudden urge for GPS. I was in the middle of my work (testing the PHILARIS software meant for digitizing titles and computerized system for LRA) when I got amazed on the ARC GIS software that is integrated on our system. Then one of our engineers bragged "Pre pag nakumpleto natin i-plot lahat ng titulo sa buong pilipinas, mas kumpleto pa mapa natin at mas accurate kasi ultimong address naka indicate dyan." And I asked him " Pre pwede kaya sa GPS yan. And he answered, possible kaso its our clients data, not ours. From then on i was intrigued about GPS softwares. After countless hours googling, I found out na libre pala ang GPS service. I thought that you eed to have a dataplan for it to work. Now I have a garmin xt installed in my xperia X1 and I got addicted to it. I even asked my Girlfriend to purchase a NUVI GPS system (havent decided on what model). Just started reading all the newbie threads and still figuring out mapsource. Hoping to be a contributor here. On saturday, me and my family are going to bicol. can't wait to try your free maps and contribute. HOpe I can learn how to use mapsource and finish reading all the rules before friday (Bicol trip). Thank you guys. hope you wont get annoyed coz am d kind of person that always asks questions.

Question to senior members: HOw much beer is needed for a personal tutorial in mapsource? Need to learn it before our trip.

hi sir. maybe you can start contributing now. who knows? maybe you'll be contributor before going to bicol. just polish up on the how to's by reading FAQ for Newbies. and also read on how to make polygons, you can start contributing now by just doing that.
pls do attend one of the EB's so you'll learn more. look for the kung fu master. he's the best teacher there is.

btw, you'll enjoy your bicol trip more if you have the contributors map.
which part of bicol are you going?

If am not mistaken, first is my dads hometown in guinobatan albay. Then pasyal around albay and legaspi then CWC camsur and if we got time Donsol sorsogon for the whale watching activity. status as of now is am still a dipsh*t in mapsource but am getting familiar with the tools but I can't figure out the difference between the demo and the other map downloadable for GPS units. it looks the same. I have read a thread that the demo is the updated map. should i use this to be my guide for adding waypoints and polys? and maybe u can help me for the terminologies and how to do's. I just finished reading about waypoints. next stop, the polys. geez this will be a very loooong night for me!

demo map is the updated map accessible to you. you can't upload it to your device yet. its purpose is to serve as your reference for your uploads to avoid uploading those already on the map as it wont count. the one that counts are new waypoints, new tracks, or corrections of existing ones, also new polygons or corrections.
but once you've been granted contributor status, you will be given an unlock code so that you will be able to convert your demo map to contributors map and upload to your device.
with regards to terminologies, CLICK HERE
on how to's. read the FAQ link below.

just always check the site, there is usually an announcement.

you'll have a field day for contributions when you go to guinobatan and ligao as there are only a few POIs on the present map, thus plenty of waypoints and road names to submit. and also tracks and waypoints for polangui. oas is now presently being updated by rexiejun.
naga city, legaspi city and sorsogon city are already detailed though. but maybe you can add some on donsol sorsogon when go go "butanding" (whale shark) watching.

You can upload and use already your gps with map V1.07 , pls refer to link below:

              http://roadguide.ph/forums/showthread.php?t=2348

The latest demo map V113 demo) can be downloaded too but it cannot be transferred in your Gps unit.

"Question to senior members: HOw much beer is needed for a personal tutorial in mapsource? Need to learn it before our trip." A two year supply is OK for every EB J/k Try first to load the map in your gps and you can use it immediately, after that we can assist you in your future contributions.

                beer, beer

                did anyone say beer....
Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

I already uploaded both maps. demo for contribution purposes and the other one for my mobile xt. Couple more questions....

                  1. Do i need to send an individual .gdb file for each corrections of street names and/or unnamed streets or i can just do it in one file.?

                  2. Is there any thread here where a noob like me can learn how to trace roads (is it the right term) do polys (am having a hard time understanding the help files but planning to resort to youtube for tutorials) etc. the whole thing@!!

                  3. Is there anyone close to meycauayan who can be my master and teach me kungfu? (mapsource, GE and GPS terminologies and functionalities). Infos i get after extensive googling are not sufficient and sometimes my little brain does not act like a sponge lately.

as for the beer, i think i might need to rob a bank, get 2 more jobs or quit my job and be a gigolo just to satisfy the urge of beer here kampai.

It's okay if links do not point to hacks, other unwanted sites or spam sites and adverts. This looks like a very nice project. In our province we have a similar project, digitizing lot parcels for tax mapping purposes and sponsored by the German gov't but undertaken by the lgu. Have you covered the entire country already or are you still in the pilot stage?
