should be same.

5.08 is so old compared to latest 1.08...thats why you have to get 1.08 thru contributions.

The v5.17 map is installed and viewed in mapsource. Then in mapsource you generate a gmapsupp.img file (using the v5.17 map) that will be sent/installed/copied to your GPS' Garmin folder. That gmapsupp.img file you have was generated from the v5.17 map...

on making a new track for an entire new village,
-do i have to name each street inside the village using mapsource?
-how can i do this using mapsource?
-after exporting track to map source, what would be the next step in editing the streets?

Please check first in mapsource if your recorded XT tracks (i'm assuming you're using XT as you've not indicated any other GPS) are of good resolution and quality. Meaning, if you can make sense of your recorded tracks enough for you to come up with, as you say, an entire new village street network, then we go to the next step which is the "How to"...
