by the way, a garmin nuvi is not what you are looking for.
If you want to go ahead with your project you'll need something much more advanced than a nuvi. laptop with bluetooth gps, 276c, 60csx, 76csx, but defo not a nuvi. too limited for what you want to do with the unit.
Actually, my app won't be like that. Data should be coming from the users. I just need to act as the user uploading coordinates then fix/finalize/publish via web.
Users can share personal plots plublicly or privately. Maybe add photos, landmarks and other details.
I would probably need a GPS module that sends gprs or sms data realtime. This feature is just an advanced capability which I'm still figuring out how to implement. But nevertheless, all data are centralized can be shared and may be edited by other members if the publisher allows them to.
Does garmin have something like an sms sender?

It's not really like waypoints.ph. It should use more of google maps where in the data are coming from those who does not have gps but can plot directions using google maps. The GPS side is just for the few who have a unit . I need sample data directly from the hardware to check if I can translate it directly via sms, email or web upload. I'm not really familiar with waypoint.ph. I should check first. If i'll be reinventing waypoint, them maybe I should just offer my app as an add on.

No need to think, stick with the nuvi. bigger screen. easier to handle. giving up a nuvi to get an e71 as navigating device doesn't make sense....

that's right.. I wont argue with that, bigger screen and easy navigating since it's touch screen and I won't have to deal with taking calls while navigating. But my so cell is messed up right now lol. I need to get off this wow thing for gps soon. But I won't give up my nuvi. I'll just have to keep in mind it's not good to have 2 gps if I'm not gonna use both at the same time.. for my simple use that is.

                  Hey Olie!

Good to see you here too..

dont go for the phone pda... youll end up spending more because i am sure you will go for the dedicated gps unit later on.

i used to enjoy the iphone but while driving on the highway.. it sometimes looses signal despite a clear blue sky... not good if you are not familiar with the location.

You will also miss the other features of a dedicated GPS unit.. like finding out what are the POIs in your area.. the autoroute map.. (tama ba yung term) 3D view of the map..route planner... a detailed trip computer.. and on some units you can get hunting and fishing schedules.. and check out the sunrise and sunset time... ano pa.. ok.. altimiter.. barometer.. and you can even connect it to your heart rate monitor for outdoor workouts..

oh i havent tried Gsmart, but Htc Tytn II is good in terms of Gps, It locks very fast about 10 seconds, depends on the rom. You have to update the quick gps application from time to time para mabilis ang lock sa sat.

It's a good back-up as well, just in case your dedicated GPS starts acting up. And you can unobstrusively mark POIs while walking, search for restos & etc. while in pedestrian mode. Pag, Nuvi baka it attracts too much attention... my 2 cents

Hehe dont be tempted mabubuwisit ka lang dahil pag ginamit mo yung gps mo then may tumawag minsan naghahang lahat and you will have to restart it.

High tech phones sometimes are too complicated and tend to be slow that's why i sold my tytn ii and still uses my old model 6110 and 8910.
