qwerty keyboard for garmin xt on wm6
i was able to change my default keyboard on my nuvi200w courtesy of "flyme" on the nuvi thread. by far, it's more easier to use because i got use to a qwerty arrangement of characters. i wonder if anybody has tried on the garmin xt running on windows mobile 6.0. i have tried to do same process i did on the nuvi but didn't work. i know there are some mapping tools and virtual keyboard downloads somewhere but as far as i know it is only for Nokia phones with XT on it. will appreciate any input on this one.░░ N70º 14.821 E22º 20.847 ░░

How to record tracks using Mobile XT
In the newer releases of XT, a feature has been added where you can now record tracks. However, based on personal experience, the tracks generated are really not that accurate in capturing the lay of the road compared to GPS handhelds like the 60CSx. But it's BTN (better than nothing). So for those who want to see their tracks (records of where they went) or to contribute tracks in areas where roads are not yet on the latest roadguide map, please follow these steps:
1. In XT, go to Tools/Manage my Data/Tracks/Options
2. Select "Recording Mode - On"
3. Select "Recording Interval - Most Often"
4. Select "Show active track on map - Enabled" (so you can see your tracks)
Track recording is now active. After recording your tracks, you can download them and open/edit in Mapsource by following this tip http://roadguide.ph/forums/showpost....41&postcount=4 and this tip http://roadguide.ph/forums/showpost....4&postcount=18. HTHLast edited by Borgie; 08-07-2009, 09:01.

Am using GMXT ver 5.0 on my Nokia N82, ive done tracking and saving part, but when i go to "My Locations"/ "Manage" i see only 2 options: 1 New Location and the other is Delete All. I dont see Export/Import data. How can i export all my saved tracks?

This is what you need to do in XT to record waypoints:
1. Run XT, make sure that it gets a satellite lock and shows your actual location in the map. Best to use it without making a route (not using "where to" function), but just to show where you are on the move.
2. Go to "tools/browse map". Notice that on the lower left corner of the screen there's a "save" option. If you click save, it will mark a waypoint on that area where the point of the cursor is and not where the vehicle icon is. That's why you can move the cursor to approximate the actual location of the waypoint for a more accurate marking (i.e you're in the middle of the road caught in traffic and you see a POI not yet on the map, you can move the cursor from where you are in the map (the vehicle icon) to the approx. location of the POI in the map). The default waypoint name is Location x (starts with Location, Location 01 and so on) and it is saved in "My Locations". Take note of the names XT gives your marked waypoints.
3. Go to "tools/manage my data/my locations". You will see your marked POI's here with their default names. Click on the a name (say Location 01) and you will be presented with options to "change name, location, and symbol". Do the necessary editing if you have time. If not, get pen and paper (better a small notebook para hindi madali ma-misplace) and write down the labels for the waypoints just marked corresponding to the default location names asap so you don't forget the label name. You can do the editing in Mapsource this way.
4. Go back to "tools/manage my data" then highlight "My Locations" (do not click). Notice on the lower left corner of the screen there's a "Manage" option. Click that then you'll see the "GPX Manage" option where you can "Import GPX" or "Export GPX". eGo to "tools/manage my data/my locations". Export GPX saves your data to the current.gpx file in your MC's GPX subfolder. This is the file that you extract and open in Mapsource.

How to use Custom Avoidance
Here's a neat trick that when routing, will help you avoid areas/roads that are closed, either temporarily bec. of repairs or because of on-going activities like processions, street parades or whatever. Areas could also be those where MMDA peeps are at...
Here's how... Go to "tools/settings/routing/avoidance setup" then at the lower left corner of your screen, click on "custom". Two options are presented, "Add New Area" and "Add New Road".
In "Add New Area", what you do is to pan to the area you want to avoid, select a point in that area that will be one of the rectangle's corners, then click "next" (a red pushpin icon will appear to mark that point), then pan either up/down/left/right to define the area boundary (area will be greyed out), then click "next" to define that area and don't forget to click "ok" to finish. For winding roads/roads with 90 deg. turns, it's better to mark more areas (that will overlap) rather than make a very wide rectangle. This makes sense imo bec. if you're avoiding a road only in that area, you can still be routed to the parallel roads near that road (see difference explanation below...).
For the "Add New Road" option, just select the starting point of the road to be avoided then the end point. Note that when XT calculates this avoidance, it will not be at the end point you specify but the nearest intersection will be the end point.
Once you have selected an area or road avoidance, the ""View List" option will be enabled. You can view the areas/roads you selected, rename them or delete them & etc.
What's the difference between selecting "areas" and "roads"? Difference between the two is when you use "add new area", all the roads inside the rectangular polygon area will be avoided in the routing calculation. For the "add new road", only the selected road will be avoided and routing calculation might cross that selected road which is not a good idea if you're avoiding that road bec. there's a parade, procession or something going on that road and you won't be able cross it pala.

Help, newbie here, I can't seem to find this option on my GMXT. I'm using a Dopod D810, running wm5, using GMXT version 5.00.20wp, under tools, manage my data, while highlighting the "my locations" icon, walang manage na lumalabas sa lower left hand corner? I can't find the export option. Help please...
Since I can't find the export gpx function, I tried uploading from my device directly, when it connects with mapsource, mapsource is able to recognize my device as "garmin mobile xt" and a list of options to upload appears-maps, waypoints, tracks, and routes, it even recognizes where my data is kept, ie. internal memory, and storage card, I select storage card, uncheck maps, and click on receive, and the screen on my pc will stay stuck on "initializing, 0% complete".
I tried uploading a waypoint from mapsource to my device and it works, so theres nothing wrong with my connection, any ideas?Last edited by Monkeyking; 09-24-2009, 23:53.

Update ko lang, got it working na.
I downgraded from GMXT version 5.00.20wp to version4.10.40w and it works flawlessly. Weird nga e, kung anu pa yun latest version, yun pa ayaw gumana...
Windows mobile seems to work differently, wala talaga siyang import export option, just connect through active sync, launch mapsource then click on "receive from device" and voila, ok na siya.
