Trouble with my E90
I tried mobilext on an old E90. Initially, it worked fine; initial lock of satellites was as fast as my (lost) old nuvi. I was satisfied with the performance that I thought I should delay my purchase of a new nuvi and in the mean time, use an E90.
Since that e90 is old, it has a crack near the hinge and it's making an alarming "tick" sound every time it was opened, so I had the back casing replace at nokia service in megamall. To my horror, the e90 could no longer get a satellite lock as fast as when I first tried it. On cold starts, it takes almost forever to have a lock. Worst, is that when I place it on the passenger seat (where i usually place it) it would easily loose the satellite signal.
To cut the long story short, I took the e90 back at nokia to have it checked. I insist that they must have messed up with the gps receiver when they replaced the back cover. They said the back cover/hinge replacement has got nothing to do with the gps problem but I insist. They took the unit and voila... it's not working... better than ever.
I asked them what they did and they said all they did was reflash the software. While they indeed reflash the software, I doubt if that is what cures the gps problem. I have a good reason to believe that they really messed up with the gps receiver (the physical chip) when they fixed the hinge.
I told the story as a warning.. it could be that the gps receiver on the e90 is near the back cover hence it could be affected by dropping, or maybe (innocently) changing the housing so be careful. Bad gps symptoms can easily be dismissed as that.. the phone's gps receiver is not good. But from this experience, it's always a good idea to have your phone checked when gps functionality is "not normal".
