Or you can check from the garmin menus.. there you can see the installed maps in your unit.

A question for Nokia E71 (or any Symbian device) users,

I have just acquired a Nokia E71 unit for my Sun SIM. I was trying to find a software equivalent of QuickGPS for the Symbian OS. Is there such a software? QuickGPS is quite handy for my Xperia. For those who aren't familiar with QuickGPS, it is a Windows Mobile based software that can download GPS Ephemeris data (current satellite locations) whenever you are connected to the internet. This is made by HTC. For every download, data is valid for up to 7 days. You can download as frequently as you want to stay updated.

I have checked the net and found a Symbian software exactly called QuickGPS, but it is actually a totally different app.

Can someone point me to the right direction?

          Thanks and regards.

I don't think there is any for the S60 as QuickGPS is made by HTC.

Thanks for the link man. It is as I expected, I will need to to go through Nokia Map's options in order to get advanced data. I will try this tonight.

                Hi,

I have an Nokie E66 with Garmin Mobile XT. I seem to be having some problems with my device. After saving a lot of waypoints in my GPS, suddenly all of the data that I have saved was erased. It's like my Garmin reseted itself. Is there any way that I can get back all the data I lost?

Hi. There's a GPX sub-folder under the Garmin folder in your MC. Inside that folder is .gpx file named current.gpx and it contains all the waypoints, routes and tracks (yes tracks can be recorded using GMXT) that you have saved using GMXT in your E66. Try to retrieve this file and open in Mapsource and see if your waypoints are still there.

Alternatively, you can make/add new waypoints, tracks or routes in Mapsource, save the file with same filename, and copy it back to your MC. Your new/added waypoints should be in your E66 when you run GMXT and check "My Locations". It might be a good practice to back-up this file from time to time so that in case GMXT goes loco, all your waypoints & etc. are not totally lost. HTH

To enable GPS on 5800, go to Menu>Applications>Location>GPS Data. It will give you the options of Navigation, Position and Distance. You can open Position to know your coordinates and altitude and if you're moving it will also show your speed. Unfortunately, that's the most you can do for now. I'm not even sure if 5800 will work with Garmin Mobile XT, hence no map is available yet for this model. If you open the Map icon, it will show your location relative to a bare Phil. map (outline only).

Btw, this model gives me an accuracy of 25 to 30 meters, which could probably be expected from a cellphone.

I use an E90 with the Phil. routable 5.17 version of the map and Garmin Mobile XT version 5.00. I use it more than my Vista for car navigation due to its voice capability.

Hi. You should turn on assisted GPS and turn-off integrated GPS and network based to avoid connecting to your network whenever you use GPS enabled services, like mobile xt and nokia maps. Likewise, to stop annoying prompts to turn on/off bluetooth when you run mobile xt, turn-off bluetooth in settings. HTH

Oops, this should have read as "You should turn on integrated GPS and turn-off assisted GPS and network based..." sorry for the mix-up ... but even with assisted GPS on, and you don't connect to the net, it'll still give you a sat. reading and you can still navigate...

An indication that assisted GPS is ON is when you open mobile xt, it'll prompt you for an internet connection access... in my E71 connection access points settings, i set a prompt password for every connection, that way, i'll be forewarned if the phone connects to the internet, esp. if it connects to smart GSM and not thru wifi. Gives me peace of mind when other people check out my phone and inadvertently connect to the internet via smart, and eat up my load
