im confused now after reading all your post regarding the use of xt with E71. Which is better, to get an E71 with XT or buy a standalone nuvi gps?

Are they the same in terms of navigating? i know the nuvi will have bigger screen and all that. But im also looking at portability

thanks much! im excited with the nuvi before but now after reading this, i don't know which to buy. E71 which will be a phone + gps nav or a separate nuvi device for gps only

For me it is always best to have a standalone device. A phone for communicating/messaging and GPS navigator/logger for your GPS needs.

            Hi,

            for my opinion.

for driving >>> nüvi with widescreen display
for tracking >>> symbian os like nokia e71

or an allrounder like convertable netbook with external gps.

hi. just wanted to inform you on accuracy of the devices:
on my Nuvi 205 - around 8 meters (also quickly connects when powering on to satellite without add-on charges, thru hotfix feature of nuvi xx5 )
on my E71 with Garmin Mobile XT - around 25 meters

                  hi,
haven't installed Garmin Mobile XT on nokia e63 but i guess yes cause of Symbian OS Platform. You need probably for your E63 something like this:

Yes it will work with E63. I was able to run XT on my N73 which also has Symbian OS. Paired it with the GPS 10x (see link of phtraveler) and i was good to go...

Hmmm, I'm quite confused whether the Nokia E63 has an internal GPS receiver or not. Based on review sites, they keep saying one of the differences it has with the E71 is the lack of a GPS chip. But if you search for its tech specs, it has Nokia Maps installed (but doesn't say it has an A-GPS chip like the E71 specs). So what's the final word on this?

The E63 does not have an internal GPS and the specs (and the price) clearly show it. It does have Nokia Maps installed but it needs to access the net for it to get a fix of your location. So the review sites are correct...

But you can still install XT on the E63 and use an external GPS like the bluetooth Garmin GPS 10X...

Thanks for the infos guys. One more question, I've installed GarminXT on my brother's E90 but I can't seem to view the downloaded maps here.

                            Any help would be appreciated.
