AVT GPS with Accumap!
There is an article with some photos in the february issue of the car magazine "C" The AVT gps is distributed by Winterpine and the maps made by Accumap. Accumap has for years delivered good gps referenced paper maps, so this developement was expected. It will be very interesting to see this product, indeed!
The article in "C" says that 100% Metro Manila coverage is promised at launch and most of Luzon by year end and eventually Visayas, and Mindanao! A handheld unit is to be launched first and then a 2-DIN unit with gps navigator with Accumaps, am/fm radio, cd/mp3 and ipod port. Yes please :-D that would fit right in the dash of any car with a 2-DIN slot, which I think most cars 10 yrs or newer has today?!
From the magazine pictures the 3d mode graphics looks unfinished, but the 2d mode looks greate, a lot like Accumaps printed maps. I will defenitly like to have a closer look at this!
Have just checked out AVT's web, and its looks like the 2DIN units are here allready?Last edited by jonatle; 02-25-2009, 02:56.Questions? Check Out The: "HOW TO"

there will be charges for map updates. free lang ata yung first two years mo.
i think the 2din units need an external accessory to be a GPS unit.
now i wonder what their accuracy is and if they have TTS functions
AVT in the mobile audio industry is very popular. in terms of sound quality, still will not compare with alpine

It has turn by turn voice instruction and lane assist function, but no text to speech. Well, it really doesn't matter since most Philippine roads are not properly labeled and besides, I never had any problems making turns w/o TTS.
The device was pretty accurate. It uses a predictive position calculation inorder to compensate for the processing delay and to compensate your vehicle speed. It shows you exactly where to turn.
In terms of sound quality, it will not match against japanese brand. But AVT is much more affordable as it is targeted at the mass market.
According to the developers, this is their initial release. They will still improve it a lot more and will update purchased units together with map updates.
The most promising for me is that they have people on the ground, checking for MMDA new traffic rules. This gives me a peace of mind, that it will be up to date for the years to come.
I heard that the update charge after the 2 years free is going to be very very affordable.Last edited by k19k19; 02-26-2009, 16:37.

yep it does sound promising. i wonder lang now if the route calculation algorithim is more attuned to the local scene than what we have with Garmin's.
The screenshot below is actually nice. Unlike with the standard map that will normally ask you to do a left turn from Ayala North to Buendia West (no left turn), AVT's unit actually took into consideration the cloverleaf design of the intersection.
edit: may mali na akong nakita. Hindi geronimo street yung naka indicate. Thats hv dela costa! whahahaa!

Review of AVT GPS
Share ko lang mga bossing:
My boss asked me to buy for him the AVT GPS map. It costs Php 18,500. Sympre i used it muna so I can share my feedback to our fellow Garmin users
Here are my observations comparing it with our Garmin GPS
1. MAP
AVT's best come on is the updated map it runs which is developed by Accumap. Street names are complete as far as the streets I encountered. Agents says Metro Manila is already 100% complete street names but no street numbers yet.
2. NAVIGATION
Since its map is more advanced, it gives a fairly reasonable direction. But turn by turn instructions do not mention street names.
Similar to our Garmin, the route suggested might not be the best route (one always takes when one is very familiar with a particular place) but surely it will take you where you want to go.
3. FAVOURITES
Unlike Garmin, When you save a waypoint, it will only save the street name of the destination you are saving.
4. POIs
The POIs are very organized according to classification. But you must know the City where you are going otherwise it would be very difficult to locate the POIs
5. STREET NUMBERS
At the moment, it does not support street numbers. When you are finding a destination you must atleast know the city and street where you are going.
6. VISIBILITY
The map of the AVT unit is not too pleasing to the eyes. The roads are very narrow and the colors are too contrasting to the point where my eyes get too irritated.
7. MAP UPDATE
AVT map would be periodically updated by its developer. Especially the U-Turn slots which most often than not being adjusted by MMDA.
8. RECALCULATING
AVT recalculating algorithm is slower by probably 1 or 1/2 sec than our garmin. I also experienced when the unit repeatedly recalculated for about 20 secs before it finally realized where we are.
THE VERDICT:
Our garmin is better in terms of functionalities and ease of use. AVT has a fairly accurate map. That is its only positive point. The GPS software of garmin is i think far superior than the AVT. For Php 18,500 introductory price, you decide. But personally I would not recommend. Let us just try our best to contribute to roadguide so that we could have a perfect map sooner.

I just wonder If you can install other maps of other countries in the AVT unit? I'm sure for the GARMIN you can!Last edited by mjaymd; 05-17-2009, 10:40.www.imedspecialist.com Intensive patient care

Accu-map has a forum for support (http://www.accu-map.com/forum/) pero it seems updates are scarce.

Avt a800
I got my hands on one AVT A800 today, it's nice but I'ld never swap it for any garmin with roadguide ph :-)
On the other hand I realized that the unit is actually running on Windows CE 5 so that means we could run GMPC on it as well :-D
Just have to get some geek figure out how to boot it up without the avt software at start up?Questions? Check Out The: "HOW TO"
