To buy or download from here

Hi All,

Im new to Sat Nav, and I dont own one yet.

Im travelling around Philippines, and will be based in Cebu.

Ill be there for 6 months, and I find Cebu City a difficult place to navigate.

Because I have to buy a Sat Nav, my question is as follows.

Do I....

1. Buy here(Ireland), something like this http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/st...egoryId_212513 and download the maps on this site.

2. Buy from here http://cgi.ebay.ph/GARMIN-NUVI-205-G...4.c0.m14.l1262

3. Buy in Ayala, or SM Malls, if available ??

I know whats cheapest, buy here and download, but I dont mind paying a little extra if I get detailed maps. The cost difference isnt hugh.

Its the quality im interested in.

Im leaving the country on Thursday, so I need to know quickly.

Regarding more detailed maps, you won't find more current and more detailed maps of Cebu than here in roadguide.ph

You can download the maps from here.

Hi smidsy and welcome to roadguide. If it were me, I'd go with with option 1. Why? Because not only is it cheaper, the map you get (or is promised you) in option 2 would be probably be the same standard map (circa 2008) you can download from roadguide for free. FYI, there is no other Garmin compatible map that can claim such extensive coverage of the Philippines than our map. I've heard lots of stories of sellers promising an "updated and comprehensive" map of the Philippines and for a newbie, it's easy to be swayed by such b.s. How can you tell by yourself really if the map you get is the most updated or detailed or what? Therein lies the deception part and the justification/selling point for overpriced GPS. As for Option 3, AFAIK it's not yet available in the malls, except maybe at Trinoma in Quezon City but at almost double the price of Option 2.

If i may say, the best route for you to follow is to become a contributor to roadguide so you get to enjoy the latest map (for free, check out the demo version v1.06) and be entitled as well to future updates if you contribute regularly. Please go through the FAQ's and "How to's" so you can familiarize yourself with the process better. Hope this reply will enlighten you somewhat...

buy the unit from ireland
download the FREE map v5.17 here in roadguide (we will help you how)btw, this is the map that the sellers are bragging about

now if you want the more detailed map we will also teach you how to get it here. FREE
No payments needed, just time

Welcome, Smidsy. I see you already have a 205. If you're coming to Cebu, maybe we can get together for an EB. I can give you hand, answer questions, get you contributing. I've been working Cebu City myself and can tell you the metro area is quite extensively mapped. All you have to do is get used to the driving.
