NUVI losses signal whena near car stereo

First time I've experienced this. Just installed a 2din made in china generic car stereo. Everything thing else is working, except for its gps. When i bought it the seller told me 'GPS not workin'. I didn't mind about it because i have my NUVI.
Now, if I place my nuvi next/near the car stereo, it losses its signal. I tried turning off the stereo, then my NUVI capture the satellite signal. Hmmm, weird.. Anybody had this expereince?

i also encountered that same problem

but it is with my dash camera bought online

whenever i turn my dash cam "on", my nuvi 1300 stops receiving sattelite signals

my 2din causes no issues naman

I read this in one forum...
" Two receivers of the same electrical design could interfere with each other if placed in close proximity since the processing signals from one receiver could radiate from its antenna and cause interference to another. It is hard to tell the exact level of degradation since this would likely be a function of the designs and the mutual proximity. Combinations of other signals in the environment could produce inter-modulation that would be disruptive to the GPS receiver,."

"GPS is a weak, highly jammable signal, equivalent, it is said, to trying to see a car's headlights from 20,000 kilometres away. And as New Scientist has revealed before, the availability of illegal handheld jammers online is indeed allowing people to block GPS signals."

Congratulation you have a micro GPS jamming device in your radio..

That's basically EMI/RFI. Generic China-made electronic equipment don't go through stringent certifications such as that provided by the FCC, specifically Part 15.

Part 15 covers the intentional, unintentional, or incidental radiation of RF signals. As all electronic equipment will emit some sort of interference - some more than others - it should generally be designed in a way that the emissions be kept at a minimum and just enough for its own function and purpose.

Having a little more voltage or current going to a certain part, using the wrong component, or not having sufficient shielding are all causes of EMI/RFI. This is typical of poorly-designed 'no-brand' Chinese products. You surely wouldn't want these near medical and/or life-support instruments.

For now, try to keep your GPS as far away as physically possible from your car radio.

          My suggestion:

          1. If your HU has bluetooth, turn it off.
          2. If it has GPS, try to turn that off or even if you don't use it, set up the antenna and put the antenna on the other side (passenger side) end of the windshield.
          Test again!

I am using a non china GPS HU running Garmin, and I never had problems, even when bluetooth is on, but the above suggestions are just to eliminate possible EMI from the HU.

Something to note is that I have a 2.4ghz wireless phone, and recently I noticed that whenever I use the phone my wifi device (linksys) would stop working and lose signal, when I stop using the wireless phone signal comes back. I find it weird because I thought that the 2.4ghz bandwidth is really well divided and digital technology has very much eliminated interference. In fact there are now 2.4ghz Remote control system for scale model airplanes that almost assures no crashes from interference.

          Good luck!

It's best not to use 2.4 Ghz phones if it has to operate in close proximity of WiFi environments. If your WiFi is dual-band, 5GHz phones may or may not also have an effect. Several years ago, against my better judgment, I bought a 2.4GHz wireless phone. But unlike yours, my problem is the opposite. The wireless phone system would occasionally be unable to lock-on to its base unit with the WiFi up. I got rid of it eventually and bought two pairs of 1.9 GHz DECT phones (two Motorola D1002). No more issues and I can even use the new phones as an intercom.

                  Doc MJ,

Until now? You should have showed it to me when I was there!

I can't believe there is no way to shut off Bluetooth, I would imagine the OS should have it, if it doesn't then your HU is crap I imagine it's WinCE based?

You should try using a mobile phone based GPS device and check if that works, maybe borrow someone's phone with Navitel!
