i got the 265wt 2 days after i arrived here in the 1st week of march when garmin was still listing the unit @ $350 (it is currently listed @ $270). i got the unit from costco $250 plus tax.

i got the unit for several reasons:

    1) i was waiting for the return of the super deal on the 60csx late december 2008 and mid january 2009 for $160 plus tax.

    2) i needed a gps unit which came with city navigator built in as i did not want to spend $ on a 60csx for US roadmaps which i wont be using after my vacation. i also did not want to download the map for free.

    3) i needed the text to speech function (which the 60csx does have) to use on LA freeways.

    4) costco has an excellent return policy and no restocking fee.

imho, if you want a nuvi now, i suggest getting a bnew 760 for $200, a refurbished 260 for $99 or for $20 more, the widescreen 260w. the nuvi 200 can also be had for $70 but with no text to speech feature.

personally, its a toss up between the 260w and the 760. the 760 getting the nod for having a powered dock and other intangibles and the 260w because im really looking @ buying the 765 and expect its price to drop further before the year ends. you'll probably see the 265wt selling for $120-150 early in '10.

when reading reviews for the 260w, bear in mind that it was sold @ different times with different chipsets and user reviews (glowing or bashing it) may not factor what chipset was installed.

just a thought, was your nuvi set to avoid traffic? it may have picked up traffic info and set you on the least congested route.

it is set to avoid traffic. there was however no traffic to be seen on my brothers usual route.

my brother was driving and i had the 265wt on mute and was looking at the turns page and telling my brother (who has has shopped @ this costco for years) the nuvi's planned route. he said it doesnt make sense to take so many rights and lefts. he took his usual route and there was no traffic in sight.

760 brand new is $200? w/ or w/o tax? Is this current? I ask a friend in the states for prices (just last week)... 265wt price range is $200-$300. I'm sure 760 is higher. Correct me If I'm wrong here.

the most visible but certainly not the lowest price (that i found) is @ amazon. $219.99 shipped for brand new and 193.77 for refurbished. there is a way to find lower prices. at this very moment (10:31 am PST) a brand new 760 can be bought for $202.39 shipped ($197.99 at the time of my previous post). a refurbished one today goes for as low as $181.69 shipped ($177.74 at the time of my previous post). those are actual prices and includes tax (no tax for CA from this seller) and shipping to any US address.

the 265wt @ 270 is the price @ garmin's website. i am sure there are lower prices to be found all over the net but im still not interested in it until it breaches the $130 mark sometime in the future. the $120-150 range i posted above is the price i expect it to be early in 2010.

            Mods sorry for OT

Oh the 760 is a discontinued product. I guess that's the reason for a lower price

Hi, newbie here. I purchased my 265T (the non-widescreen version) from Amazon last June for $179.99. And since it's Amazon, free shipping and tax-free sya.

Anyway, I just wanted to add some speculation regarding the "staircase" feature of this product. I also noticed it while driving in the West Covina area of LA. My uncle pointed out that the route that the 265T kept insisting on had less traffic lights than the straight one. And since the unit's free traffic feature doesn't cover all the roads in LA (I think it only works for freeways and the major metro areas), it automatically assumes the traffic would be less congested on the routes with less lights. But then again, this is only speculation. Hehe

Have yet to try it here in Manila, though. Can't detect the satellites. It's probably because of the bad weather.

^ FWIW, traffic info (FM Traffic, MSN Direct, or XM NavTraffic) is not available in the Philippines. Ask again in a decade or so.

I've used my 265wt in MM and up north and quite satisfied. I even got lost and just followed the direction and brought me home.

I have only just started using my 265W so I am not yet familiar with it.

Yesterday I turned right out of our village (Insular Villlage Phase One) onto the main road but the unit showed me still in the village. When I was got parallel to the end of the road it thought I was on the display jumped me across to the main road. The saved track in the log shows me going along the village road then angling across the land between the roads to get to the main road.

I am guessing the satellite fix was not accurate enough for it know I was on the main road rather than the village road about 30 meters away.

Just got my 265T the other day. It's exactly the same as the 275T which I got first, only difference is the map included in the unit. 265T has only North America maps while 275T has North America and Europe.

Just like the 275, the 265 is a great unit. So if you don't need the European map, get the 265 and save a couple of bucks.

Best to check first that the nuvi has already locked on to the satellite before moving, that way you can determine if it's a bug in the map or the GPS that's causing the error... Helps also to remember that if your GPS has not yet gotten a satellite lock, It'll show the location where you used it last before turning it off...

you'll find the bluetooth device very useful(calling or receiving phone calls) is it keeps your hands on steering wheel and still focus on driving.
check if your unit have FM receiver, if it have that feature ou can use your car speaker as speaker phone
