Either will do. You won't notice the difference speedwise. I have maps in both internal memory and SD card.

        SD Card question

        Hi,

Just bought an SD card for my nuvi 260. Saved the map on the sd card but the gps cannot see the map. Tried to save the map on the nuvi directly and now I can see the map. I was hoping to save all my data in the SD card so if I change my unit I can easily port my data to the new unit.

Is there anything that I missed to do ?

I was thinking the same thing. I have a North America Map and philippine map. Is the gmapsupp.img the file of the two maps?

              depends.

              easiest way:
cardreader / sd card (or mini sd)
let mapsource write the map to it

repeat with other card for other map

              or rename to gmapsupp2.img

              plenty possibilities

Do you mean that when you turn on your nuvi, all of it is in chinese?

what you can do is turn on your nuvi. go to tools, setting, scroll down and go to the lips icon and on the upper right press it and pick american english. I hope i helped you right.

btw...this is on the wrong thread.

it won't. my US map is in the nuvi's internal rom, filename is "gmapprom.img". The roadguide map is in the sd card, filename is "gmapsupp.img". Note that the US map (built in) is of different filename, so it doesn't really matter where you put the roadguide map.

now, supposing you bought a map of singapoore and you install it manually (did not use mapsource) there is a chance that you might overwrite the roadguide map (usual default filename of an external map is "gmapsupp.img"). Same is true if you happen to have the roadguide map in the internal ram and you manually installed another map in it. This are the things to watch our for. Safe way is to install map using mapsource. Just to be safe though, always backup the ".img" files inside the "garmin" folder before installing a new map, this applies to both the internal and the SD card memory.
