    Newbie GPS user (Garmin 205)

Hi all i just recently bought my 1st GPS a Garmin 205, i'm not yet very familiar in using the device but so far im loving it specially when in manila. im currently based Here in Bicol, Lgeaspi to be exact so roads here are not yet fully mapped. a friend of mine suggested to Update or upgrade current map to Fully Enjoy the Device.

    My question:

is the map on my device updated or there is a much better map available out there? how do i get the map version?

bought the unit in a car accessory shop in banawe they said the unit is preloaded with a current Phil map. is this true? or the one available in this is forum is better?

lastly how do i update my map since the box didn't come with any Software/Installer.

Hope you guys could help me out thankyou

Kuya HBT, you know I like responding with long posts so with you indulgence

Opex my longish reply as follows:

      1. Most probably what you have is the free version of the RG or maybe even other free maps from other sources. Please explore the settings of your unit to find out what maps it has, you can see if there is Roadguide listed in the maps settings.

      2. In any case almost sure you don't have the latest map. So the best thing to do to get started is the visit the FAQ posted by HBT and follow it step by step, so that you now have a working mapsource in your PC as well as the latest demo map so you will know what are the unmapped portions of Legaspi, and so you know which you can contribute and which are already in the map.

      3. You also need a "mini USB to USB cable" to connect your Garmin unit to your PC, if you don't have it, most Computer shops or CDRking has them. You could bring your GPS unit with you, and just show the salesperson the connector at the back of your Garmin and ask that you be sold a connector that fits that and your computer's USB.

When in doubt, visit the How to and FAQ pages, most of your questions is probably there, but if you still get stumped then ask your question here

      Have fun Mapping!

Thanks po. Just one off topic Question is it possible to purchase a Garmin GPS abroad, the US to be specific and use it here in the Phil? will the unit work?
Reason Being that there are Way cooler garmin models available abroad and very few available here

                  specially this unit https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=63940

Thanks again and sorry for the off topic question

not sure about the 3790 series. but the 1xxx series works well with the rg map.

but it is a good decision to buy them in the US.
