Does this new firmware now allow the contributor's map to be instaled in the 3790T? Are there significant improvements? If not, no sense in upgrading.

contributors map version 1.24 now works perfectly fine with the 3790T. Jan already fixed the problem. You will need the patches though, and a new lock code.

There are two maps available in RG. The free map ver 1.07 for newbies (updated in 2009), and the Contributors' Map (CM) which is only accessible to members already contributing to the map. This map was last updated in April 2011 so its quite impressive compared to any other map including the Garmin Philippine map I suppose.

But for months I could not load the Contributors map (CM) to my 3790T. Apparently Garmin made some modifications with the OS in this model that it refuses to read maps with access codes like the CM. But two weeks ago, our genuises in RG were able to fix the problem. The fixes were loaded using patches to the latest version of the CM (ver 1.24).

What you should do is go to www.garmin.com and look at all the features of the 3790T, including the demo video. You will see lots of pics there including the POIs I hope.

In the next EB, I can demo to you the 3790T if you like. Btw, when is the next EB, anyone?

Actually, I also need the screenshot now because my friend in the US wants to see how a US firmware can use POIs (sort of proof, I suppose) because several people there know that a US firmware can’t display POIs while Asian firmwares can.

i seem to have gotten a lemon for my 3790. I loaded the free map and It work only 3 days and just died. I am in the process of trying to send it back with some unhappy comments.
