Hi guys, going to the US for vacation so I'll buy a new GPS (old one died a while ago, so never really got the chance to contribute due to being inactive, been using my iphone as a gps since then but I'm not happy with it compared to a dedicated one).

I'm interested in this model and plan to use it for contributing data but have a question about one of it's features.
Main thing I'm interested in is the Voice command... I have heard it is unavailable in the Philippines for search by city? or something of the sort.

Can I still use the voice command for POI.. like example.. can I say POI - Mall Of Asia.
What exactly are it's voice limitations in the Philippines? can I still say road/street names (or at least try to without butchering the street names here) or do I have to manually spell out the streets for voice command to work.

Say I want to find street... 100 Ayala avenue, can I still use this with voice command or will I have to input via touch key or spell it out loud.

I often find myself changing locations or needing to find info while I'm driving and hate to operate it using touchscreen, hoping to utilize the voice command but I probably won't buy it if it's not compatible with road/street search here as I do have a 265wt back in the states that I'm not using as a backup/replacement...Much appreciated for any feedback.

        Thanks

Just to share some pointers with this unit using it here with our RG map (no idea vs the other OSM map/Navteq/etc...if it will have the same functionality with our map using Nuvi 3790).

By using the voice command searching for Mall of Asia per your example...

Well, As mentioned in the manual and by default...The Magic Spell is the "Voice Command" to set the screen in the selection list...

By saying the Magic Spell, the screen will give you the ff options:

          > View Map/ Go Home
          > Find By name/ Find City
          > Find Category/ Find Address
          > Find Intersection/ Favorites
          > Recently Found/ Stop Route
          > Volume/ Brightness

          In voice command:
The following features in not yet available for Philippines (this will prompt to your screen):
          > Find By Name
          > Find Intersection
          > Find Address
          > Find City

Using voice command for POIs searching:

Ex: You can only use the following features to search for Mall of Asia...
          > Recently Found ( if MOA is already used for routing before as it recalls all the recently found POIs in your GPSR) > Speak the number of your choice for selection.
          > Favorites (when MOA is saved under your favorite POIs) > Speak the number of your choice for selection
          > Find Category > Speak the name of the category > View Category> Select for the category > Shopping > Speak the number of the category > Mall of Asia (if MOA is near your area, if not, other nearby Malls or Shopping centers will appear on your options)

          HTH.

hi to all 3790T users, may I ask what basemap does your 3790T has?

            Comment

don't know how to say this clearly but here goes... I have noticed that some maps has street that appears "thin" on my 3790T, like the roadguide basic map, i have also tried a map of malaysia which also has the same "thin" street... both don't display properly on my unit wherein the streets will become "broken" into parts when zoomed in...

BUT, the preloaded taiwan map, which has streets that appears "thick" is perfectly okay, I was also able to install an australian map which also has "thick" streets, and my unit was also able to display it perfectly...

is there any plug-ins/add-ons/whatever that i can try more or less to see if I can make the philippine map display properly on my unit?

              thanks for any inputs..

wrong location of final POI at point of destination

It happens not once but twice- In my gpsr the final POI during navigation, (the one w/ flag icon) is on wrong side, supposedly the actual POI is in the right side, but gpsr shows left side but checking in mapsource, the POI is in correct location, did it happened also to you guys? by the way the location is in open area...

Encountered that same scenario a couple of times already... What i do is just submit it as a correction.

It also happens to my gpsr, also checked with mapsource and it is correct.

Another way of knowing if your unit/software is up-to-date is thru Basecamp

Open Basecamp on your computer, connect your nuvi... If there is an update, it will prompt you

..... IMO, factory refurbished units are good choices simply because these are already double/triple checked before reselling...

I got my 3760T, basically the same with the unit mentioned here minus the voice command, factory refurbished, bought from eBay US seller at a much, much cheaper price and it worked perfectly...
It's got themes for the map, topographic map overlay, can be switch to 0% brightness and still readable thus making it's battery lasts longer than advertised...

When I travelled from Mindanao to Baguio.... and back, I brought my 1300 with RG cmap, my 3760T with OSM that time cause I wasn't able to request yet an unlock code from the honorable judge... I tell you it was Fun

Sometimes the 2 wants to go on the opposite ways but I religiously followed the one with the RG map of course finding later that they converge to the same road somewhere down the road... You have to experiment with the navigation calculation mode to achieve the best results

No glitches, freeze, whiting out, or putol putol roads...

I now have my unlock code from the honorable judge
