stick with the 255s
have bad experience with the 1390T. mine was RMAed twice since i bought it last year. now it has a damaged screen (white line across). bought a 255 from a Harvey Norman store in Sydney late December and its a non-issue. store claimed 265 is an older model. anyways, this 255 is a winner!

here's the link that contains both standard map and latest demo map.

you may install the standard map to your device now. but the other map (latest demo map) will only serve as visual reference to your contributions. once your status gets upgraded to contributor, you will be given code to unlock the latest contributor's map that you can transfer to your nuvi.
good luck.

i'm new with Garmin, does it mean that the higher the model number, the better its functionalities (not to mention it's price)? thanks..
Can't decide yet what GPS to buy..my budget is only P5,000..

at those 200 series as my basic unit...and I thought all the while
that just because 265 has the higher model coding... its newer
compared to the 255s hehehe... silly me

guys...another query to the best model of nuvis.
What model would be most appropriate for all around duty
like gps in the car, then use it also on-foot or during public
commutes?... would the 200series at the least cost be
applicable in this category?i've seen battery life specs rated
at 4-5hours...would this be true in real application or its just
in the written specs?

The only difference is that the 265/265W has Bluetooth capabilities.

i've read somewhere that you have to tap a sequence of numbers to do 1sec track?...
do these models follow the same sequence sir?
and may i add a question regarding its operability as a handheld gps
without an aid for a power supply chord... does the specification of
4hrs battery life mean you could detach this units with ample time
to wander around the city on foot for at least 3 to 4 hours?...please
enlighten me sir... i've heard some say its only theoretical...its actually
lesser than what the brochure says assuming you have a good conditioned
fully charged battery...

now, if i understood right from that post... to be able to do 1sec track
a 255/255W has to follow a 1-2-3-4 sequence, while the 265/265W has
a built in capability in its features... tama ba?hehehe

To be honest, I find the 265W a little bit awkward as a handheld in the city, as it is too big for me. Nice for a car though.
I know you want to get the most bang for your buck do it all GPS, but i still prefer using a nuvi in my car and a cellphone w/ GPS for walking around.Last edited by gtv; 05-12-2011, 21:26.

Purely my two cents worth here!!!!
After trying out 1xxx series and 2xx series, I say that I really didn't see much difference in terms of usability. Bottomline with the proper map, it will get you from A to B almost the same way/time.
If you are a newbie with a tight budget, or newbie, not sure if you really need a GPSR in the country, then I would say go ahead and get the entry level. P5000 budget, if you have friends and relatives in the US, you can get a 205W or 255W for maybe even less than that.
The smaller ones are easier to hand hold when walking and to figure out a mounting system for biking or motorbiking.
I love the 1sec tracking feature coz I love contributing new tracks, but it is not a must for everyone, most of the units are capable anyway. Just do not update the firmware if you can help it.
A garmin 205W bought in the US, is actually still quite competitive against a CDRking unit, mainly because of the added feature of free updates from Roadguide.
