I always thought that the GPS gets its time from satellites. It automatically selects the correct timezone depending on where you actually are.
That said, the time is always updated everytime the GPS gets a fix.
You are actually correct. When I was fiddling around with my unit in offline mode, I noticed the time was inaccurate (2hours late). I wanted to set it right but I couldn't find where to set the time.
I quit after awhile and went to bed. When I woke up, I turned the unit back on and it found 2 satellites but didn't get a lock yet. All of a sudden, right before my eyes, I saw how the time changed from 2hours late to the correct time.
