new to the world of nuvi...i have questions

good day. i'm new to the world of gps. i bought a nuvi 255w last sunday. i have a question though. my wife and i tried it last night and took a different route than that was suggested. we wanted to see if the unit would refresh and give a new set of instructions to get to our destination. however, the unit did not refresh/recalculate to give us new instrctions and just showed us our current location. so we had to figure out the way to our destination by ourselves. why is that? isnt it suppose to give us another route or cope with our current location and just give us a new route? thanks.

what map is install in the nuvi?
what step did you do?
if you use the map provided here and press WHERE TO, its suppose to guide you to your destination even if you take another path, it will recalculate and bring you to your destination

Assuming you're using the Roadguide map, methinks you did not press "Where to" to enter your destination because if you did and as mentioned by hbt, it'll recalculate your position and give you a new route to your destination once you go off-route... HTH

You can download Roadguide's free map version 1.07 and follow the steps outlined in here http://roadguide.ph/forums/showthread.php?t=1584 so that the Roadguide map will be compatible with the MAC. Please check if the Garmin map installed is Roadguide's older free map v5.17. If it is, please download the updated free map version 1.07 here http://roadguide.ph/forums/showthread.php?t=2348 so you'll have the better map. Please check the "How to's" on how to install the map in your PC then into the GPS, the instructions are all outlined there... HTH

is there a step by step guide on how to install the maps? i've installed the mapsource and its update. also downloaded the map. i run the map and it extracted some .img files. how do i correctly install it? thanks

saw a drop down box on the upper left corner and i chose roadguide.ph 1.07 basic map. how do i update/upload my new map to the gps unit? sorry for the questions =)

hi again =) the map works fine but some of routes that i usally take is not on the map. how can i correct this? do i need a new software to update my map? i also wanted to share the routes that i take so others would know some shortcuts especially roads going to divisoria. thanks =)

if its capable then you can record the tracks.
