Garmin Nuvi 1200 - not picking up a satellite signal!

    hi.

I'm new here. Does anyone own a Garmin 1200? My unit, which I bought in the US, can't detect a satellite signal.

My unit has the Philippine map, at least M-Manila though, thanks to infomax.

Pls let me know how to make my 1200 function......

    thank you!!!

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

Yup, go out in the open, don't move, and literally wait for it to get a lock on the satellites...

            Some tips:
            1. Make sure you have 'open sky' to have a line-of-sight with satellites. Avoid getting near tall trees/buildings.
            2. Your vehicle should not be moving to get a faster satellite lock.
            3. Weather condiiton also a factor to faster satellite lock.
            4. If your waiting time exceeded 10 mins. (and there's not even one bar of satellite signal) then 'Houston, we have a problem'

            Good luck.

No Satellite signal for Garmin nuvi 1200

                      Beachhead,
I am also facing similar problem with my Garmin Nuvi 1200 which I purchased in USA. I am not getting satellite signal when I try to use it in India. Were you able to resolve the problem with suggestions given by others?

                      Looking forward for your response,
                      Thanks

I just wanted to update everyone that once a GPS moves thousand of miles from one location to another in "off" state - GPS has to re-sync and download some data from all the satellites and it can take upto 1 hour for GPS to get the signal at new location. So, keep your GPS stationary under the open sky for about an hour and then you are ready to rock with your GPS. By the way, my Garmin nuvi 1200 took about 30 mins to get the signal before I could use it.

                        Thanks

you have to put the gps where there are clear view of the sky without obstruction like buildings that blocks the signal.
it takes about 30 minutes or more sometimes especially if its the units 1st lock or if you change location/country

                            just be patient

Just got my Nuvi 1200, it took 45 minutes to lock on the first time, unit works fine now and locks on in less than a minute from shutdown
