i found an answer (at least for 760 users), the POI's visibility feature was removed by garmin to prevent clutter and maintain redrawing speed.

    here's the link:

that's really a bummer, i was hoping it will still be correctible via firmware or map tweaking... oh well, anyways, may i know which nuvi systems (models) have these POI visibility feature?

    thanks

but looking at it generally, i say its broken since other same model can display poi in 3D mode.

I have a similar problem on my 500

I normally drive at 120 or 200 meter resolution and I can't see waypoints. Just the other day, I zoomed in to 50 meters and the waypoints showed up. Zoom out and they're gone.

I run in 2D mode, haven't checked if this is the same in 3D.

i think it depends on where the unit came from. previously using a nuvi 1300 bought from the US and no POI were show while routing. Recently bought a Nuvifone G60 from singapore and POIs are show on the screen while driving. Myabe that feature is disabled on US units
              no waypoint left unturned

hi im using garmin nuvi 255w and POIs are not visible in my screen whether in 2d or 3d view. Im just using the standard free map, is this normal? if for example i was given the opportunity to have a contributors map does it mean that POIs will be present on my map?

All the POIs will be present. It just won't show up while navigating.

ok sir, since only my custom POI are the only visible in the map while navigating, can i plot or put waypoints on top of the existing POI in the demo map and send it to my gps? of course it will be inaccurate, i just want some reference points in my map. does it make sense?

is it possible that landmarks will appear in my map while i'm just driving and not navigating? or this is map dependent or gps unit dependent?

You can do that for the POIs to appear. And yes, it might not be accurate anymore since some POIs will probably appear in the middle or other side of the road.

I think it will not appear even when just driving only. It's largely device dependent.

                        Hi Sir Pokz,

Regarding the above, why is it that when I used Indonesia Map the POIs are visible? Did they do some tweaks with their map?

Not sure really. But based from our experience with our map, there are some units that show the POIs while navigating while most do not. And I think this is generally the experience for other maps as well, as suggested in other forums.

i think US versions don't really show POI's when navigating... that is primarily the reason why i opted to buy my Nuvi 765 from singapore... tested it already and it does show the POI's when in actual route.
