There's no img of the demo map v1.06 . The demo map can only be used with Mapsource and can't be loaded in the GPS. It's for reference purposes only so contributors will know if their planned contributions are or are not yet on the map.

And yes, the contributors map v1.06 is much more updated than the standard map.

Contribute so you could have updated map.

There are other ways that will earn you contributor status. Like checking the existing map for double/multiple entries all pointing to the same POI, or a wrongly positioned POI (you must be very familiar with the area to make this correction btw), naming of unnamed roads in the demo map and/or correcting roadnames (can be done by getting streetmaps with roadnames from your city/municipal planning offices and subdivision developers). In Google Earth you can trace rivers (highest priority), airports, golf courses, shopping centers, colleges/universities, cemeteries & other big landmark areas.

Sometimes you don't need to go far to map and make your contribution. Check the area near where you usually go around, are the important POI's in your area in the demo map? You can start from there as well ..

What mapping program did you use in opening gmapsupp.img? It will only work with Garmin XT in your p1i. HTH

Gmap is the map you send to your GPS device and it's Mapsource generated. You can't view or open that in Mapsource. Read up more on the FAQ's and "How to's" and you can start here for the standard map that's installed in Mapsource http://roadguide.ph/forums/showthread.php?t=5 and here for the demo map v1.06 http://roadguide.ph/forums/showthread.php?t=17.
