Here's another project, seem's the Malsingmaps community is a bit "reorganised", another group offers a new Malaysia Map, which is no longer locked:

                      hehehe nice one...

but really, isn't there anyone here who had successfully uploaded the mal-siing map into their mapsource and nuvi unit.

I would really appreaciate the assistance.

                      thanks in advance guys.

I have used the map from MalSing on a recent trip to KL. Loaded it into both my Nuvi 260 and 60Csx. They were perfect and more detailed than the free map that I got for the Philippines.

You have to combine the Philippines and MalSing map into one file using GMAPTOOL.EXE which you can download via the link provided from the MalSing forum.

I first renamed the Philippine map into:
                        gmapsupp_PH.img (17,253 KB)

Then I renamed the downloaded Malaysian map into:
                        gmapsupp_MYSG.img (51,540 KB)

Then go to the DOS command prompt and run the ff:

                        Gmaptool.exe -j -o gmapsupp.img gmapsupp_PH.img gmapsupp_MYSG.img

It basically combines both the PH and MY/SG map into a file called gmapsupp.img

Transfer the combined file into your Garmin and reboot.

I'm just new to all this, so one other question I haven't figured out is why the map files have different filenaming conventions.

                        Good luck!

                          MalSing maps

I'm running a Nuvi 760 and have the Philippines, MalSing and Thailand maps loaded without any problem. Just put them into Mapsource and transferred to the 760.

On a recent trip to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand I found them to be very useful ... except for Thailand which is mainly only good for Bangkok.
