    PC specs for Mapsource

I started installing the Mapsource application and loaded the demo map.

My computer is freezing while loading the map especially if you are viewing it with more details.

I use Core2 Duo, 2GB DDR RAM and built in video card.

Anybody who has the same experience? Do you think the problem is my video card? I can use googlemaps with no problems at all and even watch HD movies on my PC.

your pc specs should be more than able to handle mapsource. perhaps try clearing the mapsource tile cache (press ctrl-g twice while under mapsource) or use gmaputil to clear the tile cache.
got a question? google it or do a forum search.

I've had similar issues with Windows 7, none with Vista or XP. I run Mapsource for a while but if I move the map around too much it freezes, crashes and I have to reopen Mapsource.

you could also try Base Camp here:

I've had no issues with Base Camp in Windows 7. Haven't tried it on other op systems.

Win 7 and 8; no issues. But I do have 4 times your memory.

Seriously though, you'll need to narrow down the symptoms. Is it really a computer freeze (wherein the computer appears to pause but then recovers), or did you mean to say that it crashes?

Some likely causes of computer "freezes" is a slow and/or full hard disk, full memory, or you have too many apps running in the background.

Any Windows OS installation, in time, gets bloated and usually doesn't perform as well as when it was initially installed.

Try Basecamp because that is where we are heading anyway

I'd say hardware is all good I mean mapsource worked for me in way older computers with very minimal memory. Then again I used older mapsource versions. What version did you use?

On my laptop/netbook Win7, mapsource works without any problem, and I am using Atom only

Thank you guys. I borrowed someone else's computer and it works!

I'm using an i5 laptop now with 4GB RAM. I think I need to upgrade my desktop soon!

Yes... only if you install Windows via Bootcamp on your Mac.
